The UC San Diego Retirement Association (UCSD RA) continues its role bringing in-person and virtual program and volunteer opportunities to retirees. The RA works as a stand‐alone organization and in close partnership with the UC San Diego Emeriti Association.
Membership: The UCSD RA is currently updating its membership records, reviewing single and couple memberships, and annual and lifetime memberships.
Board Meetings: The UCSD RA Board meets virtually monthly with sub-committee meetings occurring on the same day as the board meeting.
Programs and Events: The UCSD RA Program Committee organizes numerous activities, both virtual and in-person, including the following themed series for 2025-26: Discover UC San Diego, a monthly film series and a preparedness series with presentations with a range of topics from wildfires to natural disasters. There are also educational seminars, a book club, and a photography interest group In October the UCSD RA initiated “Happy Hour at the UCSD Faculty Club” on the second Thursday of the month; a social gathering in collaboration with the Faculty Club, a campus organization. The first event was well attended with RA members enjoying camaraderie with fellow retirees. Emeriti Association members will join the RA members at the November happy hour and future gatherings.
Volunteers: The UCSD RA has a large group of active volunteers. This year a variety of volunteer events are offered: Chancellor Scholar Program Networking nights, mentoring opportunities, a Holiday Food Drive, a Marine Holiday Toy Drive and knitting of NICU Preemie caps.
Mentorship Programs: For many years the UCSD RA has provided funding annually to the Chancellor’s Scholarship Program, a mentorship and leadership development program for students who are recipients of a Chancellor’s Scholarship. With the assistance of the international travel grant from CUCRA, the amount will be $10,000. This year participation as a mentor for the Chancellor Scholarship Program, overseen by the Emeriti Association, was opened to UCSD RA staff members. The UCSD RA also makes a $2,000 award for continuing education to Nursing / Health Sciences employees.
