Fall 2025 Report

Livermore Laboratory Retirees Association
Report to CUCRA
October 2025

Our principal activity is monthly luncheon meetings with a speaker. Recent speakers have ranged from a military historian discussing aerial reconnaissance during the early Cold War to a retiree couple explaining how to create fine art out of stained glass. Beyond the luncheon meetings we publish an electronic newsletter once or twice a month on topics ranging from LLNL news to selected UC and campus topics to science and medicine more generally. Newsletter subjects may be of interest to the retirement community generally or to LLNL retirees in particular.

As of this writing, the governmental shutdown is generating major uncertainties in the future of federally funded research. We try to keep the newsletter non-political while remaining true to established science – not always easy with an administration that often takes unconventional scientific positions. We maintain a website, often with updates on relevant UC benefits, policies and news.

Our association has about 600 retirees. We do not charge dues but may eventually do so if needed to cover web hosting and other operational expenses. Past experience shows that dues can bring a decline in membership.

Volunteer programs: None. Board members are the only volunteers within LLRA.
Member benefits (parking, discounts, etc.): Access to the luncheons and e-newsletter.
Status of Retirement Center: We have no Retirement Center.
