UC Davis Retirees' Association

April 2024 Report

Submited by: Emily Galindo, President

Since the Fall 2023 CUCRA meeting, the UC Davis Retirees Association (UCDRA) has continued to meet on a regular basis in person. Our board has experienced membership changes with the resignation of our program coordinator and our past president.

The UCDRA president and vice president continue to attend Campus Community Council quarterly meetings hosted by the Chancellor’s Office. These meetings provide important updates regarding University activities and provide an opportunity to engage with campus leadership on issues that impact retirees.

In December we hosted a holiday luncheon that was well attended. This annual event has become more popular as retirees are feeling more comfortable with in-person activities. Holiday music was provided by a local group. in May, our joint spring meeting will be held in Sacramento at the MIND Institute Auditorium. This will be our first time hosting in Sacramento since before the pandemic.

Our Retiree Center staffing has remained consistent and we are now receiving more direct support for our association. The office in Sacramento is now open and providing daily service to medical center retirees. Monthly coffee socials hosted by the Center continue on a regular basis in Davis once per month. In April they are hosting another Retirees Resource Fair with an anticipated 40 vendors from the community.

Efforts are currently underway to fund raise for this year’s UC Davis Give Day. This year we are targeting the Staff Emergency funds on the Davis and Sacramento campuses. These funds will provide financial support for staff colleagues in need.

Finally, we are preparing for our annual elections and will be voting on proposed by- law changes. The changes include adding up to two Member at Large positions to our board in an effort to increase exposure and familiarity to the other leadership roles. Thus far, we have had a number of retirees show interest in being considered for these roles as well as our other vacant board positions. It is our goal to have a full board to begin the 2024-2025 academic year.
