UC Riverside Retirees' Association Report

October 2020 Report

Submitted by Mary Johnson, President, UCR Retirees' Association

Membership - UCRRA has 260 dues paying members. We also have 150 inactive members, which are still included in the mailing list. The Benefits Office staff refers prospective retirees to the Retiree Center. This has been working well with everything being done by zoom/phone/email.

Association's activities - Thanks to the Retiree Center we have had several successful activities on Zoom. Events include UCR Extension guest speakers, Fidelity Investments Navigating Market Volatility, a virtual luncheon with an expert speaker detailing the Suffrage Movement, Tech Tuesdays with the latest meeting focusing on password protection. We are also partnering with our campus Staff Assembly in several initiatives such as acknowledgement of staff who are retiring in their quarterly General Meetings, developing a new Staff Assembly Annual Distinguished Service Award and promoting our organization as a way of continuing to be a part of the UCR Community.

Association's Member Benefits
We continue to provide retirees with complimentary parking on campus. UCRRA Membership has added a discount program benefit to our members. The "R" Card will allow retirees to continue to receive discounts on campus Book Store purchases, continued use of the campus libraries, along with various restaurants and businesses in the community.

Retirement Center Status - Our Retirement Center Director came onboard in December, 2019. She has done a fantastic job dealing with ways to reach out to members during the pandemic. The quarterly newsletter is emailed to members as well as updates on retirement related information which is sent out through the mailing list. Retirement information, programs and events have been added to the retirees and emeriti website at https://retirees.ucr.edu/. She is adding events and activities to keep our members engaged during the pandemic.

Association's Volunteer Programs - We are working together to initiate volunteer opportunities when the campus reopens.

Plans include to continue adding activities and programs that engage our membership. That will be something to work on as the campus allows people back on the campus.
