UC Davis Retirees' Association
October 2024 Report
Submited by: Dianne Gregory, President
Since the April 2024 CUCRA meeting, the UC Davis Retirees Association (UCDRA) has continued to meet in person, apart from a summer break from June until October. Before the summer break, the board elected new officers (President, Dianne Gregory; Vice President, ML Farrell; Immediate Past President, Emily Galindo; and David Goldenberg, Programs Chair) and welcomed the continuation of Diane Mundy in the role of Treasurer and Darlene Hunter in the role of Secretary as well as Narriman Shahrokh in the role of UC Davis Health Liaison. We also voted on proposed by-law changes, which include adding up to two Member-at-Large positions to the board. We were able to successfully recruit new members to these positions, and we have met our goal to have a full board to begin the 2024-2025 academic year.
The UCDRA president attended the Campus Community Council quarterly meeting hosted by the Chancellor’s Office, which provided important updates regarding University activities (including plans for the fall) and an opportunity to engage with campus leadership on issues that impact retirees.
Retiree Center staffing has remained consistent, and the office in Sacramento is now open and providing service to medical center retirees and future retirees. Monthly coffee socials hosted by the Center once per month in Davis continue to be very popular, and the Center also hosted a field trip for retirees and emeriti to a Giants game in San Francisco (they lost, again!).
As for fundraising, UCDRA is targeting the Staff Emergency funds on the Davis and Sacramento campuses that provide financial support for staff colleagues in need. We hope to not only align this fundraising with Give Day but also to provide the opportunity to donate throughout the year with proposed buttons on our website that go directly to the funds’ respective donation pages.
