UC Riverside Retirees' Association Report

April 2021 Report

Submitted by Mary Johnson, President, UCR Retirees' Association

NEW MEMBERS - With a higher number of employees retiring this year, our membership continues to grow. As of April 22, 2021, we now have 186 lifetime, 106 annual dues paying retirees, and 148 inactive members, for an overall total of 440. That is up 32 members from 410 total members from Fall, 2020.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - Our scholarship program has been approved and will begin soon. Our goal is to grant scholarships to children and grandchildren of UCR Retiree Association members.

VIRTUAL ZOOM MEETINGS - Our monthly board meetings have been productive using Zoom, however we do look forward to meeting in person soon. We have had the opportunity to connect quickly when issues arise and feel very positive about our Associations direction.

ELECTIONS - We have five open positions on the Retiree Board. We are asking many of the new members if they would be interested in taking on a Retiree Board position. So far, we have been fortunate to fill two positions and are hoping all positions will be filled by the new fiscal year.

PARTNERING WITH STAFF ASSEMBLY - We now have formed a partnership with our Staff Assembly thanks to the efforts from our Retirement Center Director. Both organizations have participated in several activities and have had good feedback and participation.

DISCOUNT CARDS FOR RETIREES - The Campus "R-Card" is an employee discount card for campus and off-campus merchants. With the persistence of our Retirement Center Director, and Retiree Association Board Members, retirees are now able to keep their card for use as a retiree, or for those who want to have an "R-Card" to be able to request one as a retiree.
