UC San Diego
Retirement Association

Spring 2026 Report

Submitted by: Kim Signoret-Paar, UCSD RA President, and
Nancy Wilson, UCSD RA Representative to CUCRA

The UC San Diego Retirement Association (UCSD RA) continues its role bringing in-person and virtual program and volunteer opportunities to retirees. The RA works as a stand‐alone organization and in close partnership with the UC San Diego Emeriti Association.

Membership: The UCSD RA is currently updating its membership records, reviewing single and couple memberships, and annual and lifetime memberships. The RA Board is considering commercial options to transition from our current 25 year-old records database to a new system.

Board Meetings: The UCSD RA Board meets virtually monthly with sub-committee meetings occurring on the same day as the board meeting.

Retirement Resource Center: In early 2025 UC San Diego Human Resources which oversees the Retirement Resource Center (RRC) asked UCSD’s internal audit group (Audit and Management Advisory Services [AMAS]) to conduct a review of the RRC which included looking at the working relationship between the RRC and Retiree and Emeriti Associations. A report with AMAS’s findings was issued the third week of January 2026. A Memorandum of Understanding is being written that is intended to define the working structure between the RRC and Retiree and Emeriti Associations.

Programs and Events: The UCSD RA Program Committee organizes numerous activities, both virtual and in-person, including the following themed series for 2025-26: Discover UC San Diego, a monthly film series, a monthly lunch gathering at different restaurants throughout San Diego, guided hikes in various locations and a preparedness series offering a range of topics from wildfires to natural disasters. There are also interest groups including a monthly social gathering with the Emeriti Association at the UCSD Faculty Club Happy Hour, a book club, and a photography interest group. In 2025-26 the RA has offered 64 programs/events compared to 78 in 2024-25. In 2024-2025 the RRC offered 31 educational seminars and in 2025-2026 has offered one program.

Currently the Faculty Club is featuring an exhibit of photographs taken in Viet Nam last Fall by the RA President, Kim Signoret-Paar. In October RA and EA members attended the opening of the exhibit at the Faculty Club Happy Hour where Kim gave a presentation discussing each photograph.

Volunteers: The UCSD RA has a large group of active volunteers. This year a variety of volunteer events are offered: Chancellor Scholar Program Networking nights and mentoring opportunities.

Mentorship Programs: For many years the UCSD RA has provided funding annually to the Chancellor’s Scholarship Program, a mentorship and leadership development program for students who are recipients of a Chancellor’s Scholarship. With the assistance of the international travel grant from CUCRA, the amount will be $10,000. RA members participate as mentors for the Chancellor Scholarship Program.

The UCSD RA also makes a $2,000 annual award for continuing education to Nursing/Health Sciences employees.
