Activities & Programs:

  • The UCIRA continues to work closely with our UCI Center for Emeriti & Retirees (CER) on all programming and activities. Our board president regularly attends UCIEA Executive Committee meetings.
     
  • The Fall 2022 Annual Reception honoring all UCI Emeriti and Retirees features Chancellor Gillman as keynote speaker will be held "in person" on October 20, 2022. Over 200 expected.
     
  • Online Zoom and Webinar sessions (Medicare Basics, Fidelity workshops, Gavin Herbert Eye Institute Lectures, Office of Information Technology Learning Sessions) and monthly-in-person walks, hikes and bike rides have continued.
     
  • May brought a tour of the Fullerton Arboretum, a Level IV ArbNet accredited arboretum.
     
  • CER partners with the Division of Graduate Education and the Graduate Dean's Lecture Series which recently featured Jennifer Friend who spoke in June about her journey from homelessness to CEO and the value of lifelong learning.
     
  • Russia's war on Ukraine, was a topic of a zoom discussion in June.
     
  • An evening under the stars was enjoyed at the New Swan's Shakespeare Theater's performance of "A Comedy of Errors."
     
  • We coordinated a New Retirees Social with CER that was held at the UCI Pub in September to welcome the last three years of retirees and emeriti.

 

New Programs and Partnerships:

  • A stroll on Los Rios will be a November outing. This street in San Juan Capistrano is the oldest residential street in California
     
  • A UCI Retiree Golf Outing is scheduled in November
     
  • The holiday season brings a tour of the Sherman Gardens, December 14th

New Programs and Partnerships:

  • The UCIRA continues its annual contribution to the Mike Puritz UCI Staff Assembly Scholarship benefiting current staff.
     
  • For the fourth year, we awarded UCIRA Legacy Scholarships for two new freshman and one new transfer student. These students will be recognized in the December newsletter.
     
  • A team of UCI Retirees participated in the annual UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge Walk/Run/Cycle benefiting cancer research at the Chao Cancer Research Center.
     
  • We also have a UCI Retirees & Friends participating in the Multiple Sclerosis Ride for a Cure on October 15-16
