UC Santa Cruz Retirees Association (April, 2023)

The UCSC Retirees Association (RA) Board meets bimonthly and in conjunction with the Retiree and Emeriti Center focuses on providing social and educational programs for all UCSC retirees as well as fund-raising for scholarships on behalf of veteran & staff pursuing a degree at UCSC. The RA Board publishes a quarterly newsletter, The Silver Slug Newsletter and maintains a website (https://retirees.ucsc.edu/). While we represent all retirees, our "official" membership currently stands at 333.

We are on track to normalizing our activities post-COVID, that is more and more in-person events. We continue to communicate with our members through on- line newsletters and direct e-mails.

Scholarships:
The Retirees Association continues to sponsor and fundraise for two scholarships, the Bruce Lane Memorial Scholarship for UCSC students who are Military Veterans and the "Silver Slug Award" for current and retired staff and their dependents studying at UCSC who need financial assistance.

Pickle Ball event (November 4, 2022)
Annual Holiday Luncheon (December 6, 2022) featuring musical performance.
Participation in "Bridge-to-Retirement" presentation panel (Feb 24, 2023)
Speaker Series (March 2, 2023) Emeritus Professor LaBeouf presented on apnea research in elephant seals—contrasting it with human apnea.
Brewery Tasting/Social (March 28, 2023) an excuse to get-together and socialize.

Scheduled

Scholarship Event (May 4, 2023) where 12 Bruce Lane Memorial Scholarships for veterans and 2 Silver Slug Awards for employees/dependents who are pursuing a degree at UCSC are presented.
"Welcome to Retirement" event* (June 29, 2023) new retires are celebrated and welcomed--including remarks by the Chancellor. We continue to offer a free initial year membership to new retirees who attend the celebration.
Campus Staff Appreciation Day Booth (May 23, 2023) where we staff an info table informing staff about our Association and recruit new Board members*.
